Welcome to Calao safaris !

Calao safaris is the project of a french couple , who fell in love with South Africa 12 years ago and achieved it with the help of a south african friend.

High school teachers at Johannesburg's french school for 9 years, they traveled the whole southern Africa, looking for wildlife and wilderness areas.

Wildlife photographers and bush lovers, they wish they can share their passion with visitors and help them to discover southern Africa nature's wonders.

They eventually found a lovely piece of bush close to Kruger park and settled a tented camp there.

Along their journey, they met reliable professionals  sharing their passion and giving them opportunity to work with.

Please feel free to contact us for any question or information.

English, french and Afrikaans speaking.

Note to visitors.

Don't neglect the "green season' from november to april, less popular than winter because of the rains and sometimes bad roads condition. It offers lush vegetation, lots of new born animals, migrants birds and beautiful cloudy skies.

One day in Kruger park.

CALAO SAFARIS

'CALAO', QUEZACO ??

CALAO is the french name for the HORNBILL family; common birds found all over southern Africa.

The yellow-billed one is called 'flying banana', guess why ?

You can discover the whole hornbill family in the 'photo gallery'.
